Technical progress report

Time for another quick update on our progress. As you can all imagine finishing the game concept was an important milestone for us. From a technical point of view it meant we needed to make the shift from prototyping and researching to the actual development of fundamental components of the game. So no more mucking about with Unity3D and other tools; we need to take our prototypes and transform them into a solid foundation for the game. In that sense I want to approach this completely...

The Riflemen, Assault and Recon class

Respected soldiers of Call of Combat, As promised, we would like to elaborate on some of the soldier classes which we've introduced last month. Today we will cover the riflemen, assault and recon class. Riflemen As we've said in our previous post about soldier classes, the soldiers of this class are rather similar to those of the old game. However, in v2 the riflemen class will consist out of five soldiers instead of four. They will carry rifles (such as the garand or mauser) and five grenades...

Meeting: no. Kick-off: hell yes!!

Salute Soldiers, We are sorry to inform you that there was no kick-off meeting yesterday. We were forced to cancel it due to a lack of registrants. Eventhough we regret this, we do completely understand it. There were quite a few of you who seemed very interested in coming. But as it is quite a trip for almost all of you, its nothing but understandable that its not all that easy to make it. But fear not. This minor set back does not deter us from developing an awesome game! Because we know that...

Soldier Classes

Salute soldiers! We proudly present to you: the new Call of Combat v2 soldier classes. For the initial golden release we will be introducing several soldier classes to the game. Although we loved the game in its simplistic form, the introduction of soldier classes is inevitable for keeping the game sustainable and subject to continuous improvement. It will change our game quite thoroughly, but definitely not for the worse. The new soldier classes and everything that comes with them add a new,...

Forum launch

Dear Soldiers of Call of Combat, We have launched a new forum. You can access and use the forum with your current user account for this website (via the link in the top menu). Even though we are still working on a few issues, the forum is fully functionable and ready for use. We will create a new forum topic for every blog post. You are very welcome to discuss the 'news' (and whatever else of course!) on both the blog and the forum. However, we hope that more in-depth discussions will take...

April Status Report

Dear Soldiers of Call of Combat, Today we would like to tell you about a few recent developments: 3D designer We are proud to announce that we have found a 3D Graphic Artist for CoCv2. His name is Frans Baud. He is a true expert and enthusiast when it comes to 3D and game design. He is helping us to shape the game concept and integrate 3D design into the game development process. When the GDD is finished he will focus on creating 3D models and textures for the game. GDD (Game Design Document)...

Line-of-sight

Hello everyone! Today we would like to tell you about some changes which we intend to make to the Line of sight (LOS) feature, and in particular to the way it will be distributed. As you guys know, LOS is a very important feature because it determines how much information a particular player has about what goes on in a battle. Our goal is to implement LOS and its distribution in such a way that it results in a proper balance. We want players to have enough information about each other to...

The chain of command

Salute soldiers! Before I tell you about some exciting new changes with regard to the chain of command, I'd like to give a little insight in our content strategy for this blog. Eventhough the entire game concept will be finished within a month or two, we will not immediately be posting about new/changed features whenever they are decided on. There are only so many features to talk about, and a very long time (approximately a year until the golden release is planned) to talk about them. So we...

Technical kick-off

Time for another blog post. Martin, Erik and I have been busy again with the game design these last two weeks. We've worked out the exact ways in which soldiers will be controlled in the game using your mouse and keyboard. The way the chain of command ties in with other game components (like line-of-sight) has also been decided upon and written down this week. I think we've made some exciting changes compared to how this was in the original game! But this blog post will not be about that ;). I...

The 2013 kick-off meeting!

Respected soldiers of CoC, We proudly present to you: the official 2013 Call of Combat v2 kick-off meeting! The main idea behind this kick-off is to present and discuss the game concept with the ones among you who are willing and able to make it. We realize and understand that for the majority of you it will be impossible to attend. Therefore we will try our utmost best to report on everything that has occurred (we'll have our camera ready, in particular at the end of the night). Date: May 4th...
